Board rules

These rules are disclosed to clarify the various responsibilities of all community members here on The Official Daystate Owners Club™. They shall be adhered to by everyone to ensure that our board runs smoothly and provides a fun and productive experience for all of our community members and visitors.

  1. General Site Overview

    1. Participation in the Official Daystate Owners Club™ website constitutes agreement to the following guidelines, which apply to posts, profile information, avatars, signatures, any other content on this site and participation in general. This includes private messages, which we have the ability to read, but only do so when a violation is reported to us or we have a legitimate reason to do so. Rare... has never happened as yet! #
    2. Because of the live nature of the discussions within this community, it is not possible for us to review and/or confirm the accuracy or validity of a message before it is posted. If you believe that someone has violated our User Guidelines or you have spotted content that may otherwise require attention, please send a private message to me or an admin member with a link to the content and a brief description of what you believe is inappropriate. Notification is voluntary and anonymous, but in no case should a user respond to a situation personally, thereby aggravating the situation further. Responding to a violation in an inflammatory manner is a violation in itself and will result in appropriate action #
    3. This is a not for profit website that generates no profit or financial gain whatsoever. Any content that violates our User Guidelines will be removed. Interpretation of our guidelines is at the discretion of the admin team #
    4. We know that people will have to leave our community (of their own free will or otherwise) from time to time and to that end, we do not delete accounts, posts, or other content posted on our community. All content is granted to us with perpetual electronic publishing rights because any content posted on this community becomes a part of the community, even if you no longer are. You may request an item to be removed at any time, but we will decide when and if to remove content from our community. If you wish to no longer be identified with our community, we will be glad to close your account and alter your profile information to remove all identifying characteristics. After account closure, you will no longer be able to participate in this community and this action is not reversible #
    5. Moderators and Admin have the final say on anything. If you have a problem, you may make a complaint to them directly and not publicly on the website. Creating threads or posts that question or reference administrative decisions or potential administrative decisions, such as post removals and thread closures, is not permitted. We are not perfect and if you feel that we have made a mistake, please privately contact a staff member and we will review the situation. If you would like a copy of your removed post so that you can adjust it and repost, please contact us, we'll be glad to send you a copy #
    6. Freedom of speech rights do not extend to privately owned websites, such as this one. These guidelines detail the types of behavior and activities that are allowed here.
      If a user violates our guidelines and shows a disregard for them, our admin and our community, they run the risk of losing their account. We reserve the right to deactivate any account and to edit or remove any content without warning. These guidelines are subject to change at any time without notice #
    7. Member location is mandatory to user profile. Location is important for a number of reasons and should be visible within your profile. Location is useful to other members as they may be within your vicinity, and they may be able to give you hands on help or support should you request, and/or may share local news shooting events etc... Furthermore, some content is restricted dependent on country or prefecture.
      Additionally, location is used for security and to reduce spamming as location is matched to your ISP IP range. Our systems periodically check that your location is indeed a match for external IP provision. Only a rough location is required, town, county etc... If requested by admin to insert or amend location, please do so asap save account limitation or removal. Security is paramount to the function and members of this BBS service. #
  2. General Rule Category

    1. Posts are to be made in the relevant forum. Users are asked to read the forum descriptions before posting. Users consistently posting to the wrong forum may be given a warning (see policing below). #
    2. Members should post in a way that is respectful of other users. Flaming or abusing users in any way will not be tolerated and will lead to a warning. #
    3. Members are asked to not act as “back seat moderators”. If members note an issue which contravenes something in this policy document they are welcome to bring it to the attention of a member of the Moderator Team. Please use the “post report” feature to report posts. Do not respond to such topics yourself. Members who constantly “act” as moderators may be warned. #
    4. Members should remember this board is aimed at a general audience. Posting pornographic or generally offensive text, images, links, etc. will not be tolerated and will lead to a warning. #
    5. Members are asked to respect the copyright of other users, sites, media, etc. Users linking to or asking for information on warez, crackz, etc. or re-printing material without permission will receive a warning and their post will be removed. #
    6. Members are asked only to post in English, as this is an English speaking community. Localised language support may be available by request to Administrator for consideration. #
    7. Members should respect the bandwidth of other users and sites. The use of inline () image tags pointing to data stored on third party systems for which the user has not received permission to link to may be removed. #
    8. Members should post in a way which is consistent with "normal writing". That is users should not post excessive numbers of emoticons, large, small or coloured text, etc. Similarly users should not SHOUT or use excessive punctuation (e.g. ! and ?) in topic titles or posts. Users consistently abusing this will be warned. #
    9. Members should use an appropriate, descriptive subject when posting a new topic. Examples of bad subjects include; "Help me!", "I'm stuck!", "I've got an error!", etc. Examples of good subjects include; "Rifle will not fire", "What is a sweet spot", etc. #
    10. Spam is not tolerated here under any circumstance. This includes offering hosting services (charged and free), installation services, solicitation etc. Recruiting members for your own projects (moderators, designers, professional MOD work, etc.) is not permitted and is also considered spam. Users posting spam will be warned and their post removed. See specific item on spam and 3rd party linking for more information. #
    11. The moderating, support and other teams reserve the right to edit, remove or put on moderation queue any post at any time. Please note that currently any very first post is automatically placed in the moderation queue and will be approved/disapproved according to the present Rules. The determination of what is construed as indecent, vulgar, spam, etc. as noted in these points is up to Team Members and not users. #
    12. The above forum rules where applicable also apply to private messaging. Abuse of the private messaging system may lead to warnings (as above) and/or the revocation of private messaging. #
    13. Cross posting is not allowed and will result in the removal of one or more posts. Cross posting is defined as posting the same information or content in two or more locations. When posting your topic, please try to post it in the most appropriate place within the organisational structure of our community. Identical topics posted in the same or different forums will be removed and may constitute a warning #
    14. While member post count has meaning, it should not be taken too seriously. Attempts to artificially increase your post count is prohibited. This includes the mass creation of short or meaningless posts #
    15. Commercial advertisements are not allowed. Generally speaking, posts made specifically for the promotion of a website, product or service are considered advertising or, at least, posts made that unnecessarily send people to a website that you are in some way affiliated with. It does not matter if it is a commercial website, a personal website, a non profit website, etc. We do however authorise the use of personal private ads in the appropriate sales sections #
    16. All signature links must be kept within your signature, in your profile. Anyone found to be posting excessive links to their websites or suspected of using "sneaky" advertising methods is in violation of this guideline. You may only post a link to your site/a site that you are in some way affiliated with if the link specifically answers the question that is being asked and the answer cannot be simply posted without the link. Even then, link directly to the page where the information can be found. General and unnecessary links will be tagged as advertising. If you are found to be excessively posting links to your site (or you appear to be seeking out threads where your link may be relevant, so that you can post it), you may lose the ability to post links to your site #
    17. You are not allowed to post an affiliate URL that leads to you earning cash, banner impressions, credits, points, etc #
    18. Vulgar language and inappropriate material is not allowed and will be removed. Abbreviations, self censoring, and attempts to circumvent the word censoring feature of the community will also violate this guideline. If your post contains a word that is censored by our system software, you must remove that word or the post will be removed. If you feel that the censor is acting in error, please contact us. We try to maintain a family friendly atmosphere whenever it is possible within the main subject matter of this community. Please keep this in mind when participating #
    19. Absolutely no public power posts! Any public posts depicting direct or indirect methods of rifle power adjustment, or methods that could lead to, (AT) Anti-tamper and/or tools, inclusive of internal external links. Members are reminded to bring to the attention any violation of this rule. Any member privately posting (PM) any material to a member or external contact re power post subject matter, (AT) remains solely and directly responsible for any direct, indirect, negative outcome by law #
    20. Hunting pictures may only be posted in Hunting Section #
    21. In depth or forced political and religious discussions are not allowed on this website. If it is believed that the end result of a discussion will be political or religious, the post may be removed. Likewise, strong political and religious sentiments should be kept out of profiles, signatures, and other content #
    22. Do not post or link copyrighted materials (articles, videos, audio, etc.) that you do not have permission to reproduce or distribute. For text articles, most of the time you may quote a small portion of the article (usually no more than 1/5 or 1/6) and you must link to the source (if online) or provide the source (if offline). Posting the entire article, even with the source, constitutes copyright infringement. This is not the place to illegally trade or distribute copyrighted (or those with questionable copyright status) video or audio clips #
    23. When posting and linking to images, videos, files, etc., please refrain from hotlinking. This is the direct linking to images (.jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .png, etc.), video (.avi, .mov, .mpg, .mpeg, .wmv, etc.), audio (.mp3, .wav, etc.), archives (.zip, .rar, etc.) or otherwise downloadable or streamable files, on servers that you do not have permission to link to, instead of linking to the page where the item can be found. This includes providing a direct link to the file, even if that file is not embedded into your post. This practice costs the server owner money and resources #
    24. Respect is the name of the game. You must respect your fellow members. Please refrain from inflammatory and defamatory comments as well as flaming, taunting, and general disrespect. Do not simply put down the opinion or advice given by others. If you don't agree with it, say why - respectfully. Don't just tell them they're wrong. Do not make uninvited remarks about typos, duplicate posts, posting styles, etc #
    25. When an opinion-based discussion is being had, do not state things like "there is no argument" as if your opinion is the only one, or the only one that matters. When someone has clearly stated their opinion, do not say things like "Are you serious?" and "Are you kidding me?" Remember, this is not a debate club. This is a friendly discussion community. Allow people to have their opinion. No one is to act as some sort of opinion judge, responding to each one to say whether they agree with it or not or whether or not it is a valid, well thought out opinion #
    26. Automated account creation, participation, and content scraping is not permitted whatsoever #
    27. Sharing of site content is very much frowned upon if deemed as inciting to others, and likely anyone found to be doing so will be subject to site policing rules. Any and all content posted on this site becomes the property of this site in order to maintain thread continuity. We feel sharing of others efforts to post, and sometimes in great detail should not given away to others who then often claim as their own content. We do not tolerate any form of keyboard warrior. #
  3. Policing Rule Category

    1. The Official Daystate Owners Club™ operates a two strike policy. Users will be warned a maximum of two times for any and all offences in a two month period. If the need arises for a third warning a temporary ban will be put in place of between 1 to 14 days. #
    2. Arguing with team members after having received a warning will lead to an immediate additional warning. Should this exceed three strikes a temporary ban will be put in place as above. #
    3. Members who feel they have been unfairly warned are welcome to contact the relevant team leader, e.g. if warned by a moderator you should contact the Moderator team leader or an administrator. If they feel you were treated unfairly they will remove a warning. #
    4. Any attempt to circumvent a temporary ban or other moderator action will lead to a permanent ban of your account(s). Circumvention includes re-registering or using an already registered account under a non-banned username. Other examples include deliberate changing IP addresses by proxy, using a new email account or other action that can be taken to evade moderator action to hide your identity as the owner of the sanctioned account. #
    5. An exception to the two strike rule applies when users contact team members personally (via any method) and post insulting, indecent or vulgar material. Such users may be subject to an immediate and permanent ban. #
    6. Permanent bans are a last resort and thought is given before implementing them. While we may consider lifting permanent bans from time to time, this is a rare occurrence. #
  4. Sales Rule Category

    1. Absolutley no trade or business advertising, personal or otherwise. #
    2. Sale price must be within your advertisement. You may not ask for offers #
    3. At least one photograph should include date taken (evidence within photo) and must be uploaded to your sale and may not be linked to an external site such as Flicker, Photobucket etc... See policing policy. Photo's should be less than 2 meg in size. Scaling maybe available via a PC app on your local machine, or by using free web scaling... example Simply upload using inbuilt facility, or drag and drop.     4. Your location must be within your user profile #
    5. You must update your sale once sold by editing subject line to indicate "SOLD" #
    6. Ignoring sale rules may have your post removed, or account suspended. See Policing rules. #
    7. Neither the Official Daystate Owners Club™ or its Admin team can be held accountable for either content or subsequent private sales. Any consequent agreement between buyer or seller is between said parties. The Official Daystate Owners Club™ has no accountability whatsoever to pre or post sales. Selling and purchasing via this medium is entirely at post or readers own risk. #
    8.     2. Hunting photographs should ONLY be posted in hunting section. #
    3. Photographs should only relate to subject matter. #
  6. Signature Rule Category

    1. Signatures may contain up to 3 lines of normal sized text OR a single image that is no more than 60px high, 468px wide, 10KiB (10240 bytes) in size and one line of small sized text. The font size of signatures should be normal or small only #
    2. Signatures containing an image of 30px in height may include up to two lines of normal sized text or three lines of small sized text. Images 15px or below in height may contain up to three lines of normal sized text or four lines of small sized text. #
    3. Content in signatures should be consistent with normal writing and abide by the general forum etiquette. You may not include hidden text, links or information to any site or external URL. #
    4. Remote signature images must have a consistently high availability to ensure page load times are not affected. Animated images are not permitted. #
    5. Members ignoring these rules will be warned or have their signature privileges revoked. #
  7. Hunting Rule Category

    1. Access to Hunting area should be requested via your User Control Panel (UCP) Area contains photo's of dead quarry. If easily offended do not ask to join. All applications require approval from admin prior to access #
    2. You must be age 16 years or over to apply for access to hunting area #
    3. Members posting pictures and reports should be mindful that we will only accept postings for hunting that is legal in your country under general licenses. All postings are the sole responsibility of poster #
  8. Avatar Rule Category

    1. Avatars should be no larger than 120x120 pixels and should not exceed 20KiB (20480 bytes) in size. #
    2. Avatars must not contain animation or include graphics which attempt to portray the ranks or avatars of phpBB Team Members. Users are permitted to utilise an avatar from the gallery or link externally to one of their own. #
    3. Remote avatars must have a consistently high availability to ensure page load times are not affected. #
    4. Avatars are subject to the same conditions as posts with respect to the general forum etiquette. #
    5. Members abusing these rules will be warned or have their avatar privileges revoked. #
